• Who is he? A native of the Robeson County town of Rowland, Vonta Leach was a football running back and linebacker at South Robeson High School, where he was named the Cape Fear region Player of the Year as a senior in 1989. He earned a football scholarship to East Carolina, earning All-Conference USA Freshman Team honors in 2000 as a linebacker before switching to fullback midway through his junior year.
