North Carolina police chief arrested
SOUTHPORT — Southport Police Chief Gary Smith has been arrested and charged, according to the Brunswick County District Attorney’s Office. The arrest follows a long-term investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the release states. According to Brunswick County Jail records Smith, 46, faces a charge of conspiracy to obtain property by false pretenses. Smith is being held at the jail with no bail amount posted. […]
