Battle of Hayes Pond remembered
The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina on Thursday unveiled a memorial commemorating the 1958 battle at Hayes Pond. On the night of Jan. 18, 1958, a group of Lumbees chased the Ku Klux Klan out of Robeson County. The memorial was dedicated after the annual State of the Tribe address.
