Escaped inmate from Virginia captured in North Carolina
Bessemer City — Bessemer City Police captured a man Sunday who had escaped from a Virginia jail on June 8, according to arrest warrants. Samuel Jackson Penley, 54, escaped from the Wise County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia while receiving medical treatment at Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, according to a criminal complaint.
