Moore County sheriff loses to challenger
Moore County Sheriff Neil Godfrey lost to a Republican challenger in Tuesday night’s primary.Complete but unofficial returns show Ronald Alan Fields won 6,583 votes to Godfrey’s 5,121.Godfrey was appointed sheriff in 2013 after the retirement of Lane Carter. He won election in 2014.Fields is a Moore County native who retired as a sheriff’s major in 2013. He was a deputy from 1983 to 1987 and a state trooper from 1987 to 2009.
